Happy New Year Everyone!
On behalf of the new Independent Film Arizona’s Board I want to wish everyone a very successful 2016. We have an exciting year ahead of us and we would love to start it the best way possible.
Our next meeting is Tuesday, January 5th at 7pm at Connect Coworking.
For January’s meeting, we will be focusing on how to start a film project. The idea of making a film has to come from the story. Sometimes as independent filmmakers/writers, we struggle on how to take that first step. Whether we’re writing drama, comedy, thriller etc. we go through a period of uncertainty in how to bring our idea into a script. So our January meeting will address this. The meeting structure will be:
I. Presentation: How to Start a Film Project
To help us understand the process, we have invited Victoria Lucas to speak to the organization. Victoria has almost 20 years of experience as a development and production executive at both major studios and independent film companies. It is never too late to listen to a person with this much experience. It will not only help us with future projects, but also with present projects and analyzing if we need to fix the stories we’re working on.
II. Q&A interaction with Victoria, for audience members to ask questions
III. A Short Film
Every month we will present a short film done by one of our peers. We invite you to bring your short film to us (Two of 5 minutes each or one of no more than 15 minutes). We will have a group of local experts in different areas such as, editing, sound, story, acting etc. to give their feedback on your work. If you’re interested in having your work shown at our monthly gathering, please bring a DVD or thumb drive to our next meeting so we can schedule the presentation.
As always, IFA meetings are free and open to the public, and we also encourage you to take the next step and become a member of IFA. For only $25.00 a year you will be part of this amazing group of people who strive to help the independent filmmakers of Southern Arizona: independentfilmarizona.com/membership/
We will meet Downtown at:
Connect Coworking, 33 S. Fifth Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85701
You know that being on time is one of the keys to success, so we’ll see you there at 7:00pm.
